Vets Climb to 2nd

Markfield Vets 1 Harboro Town Vets 4
This is my truth now tell me yours!!!
This victory sees the Vets climb to second in the league on what was maybe the coldest day of the year and with this in mind the Team are short of the following (coincidence you be the judge) The Gaffer, Woj, Paul T, Stan, Fletch, Ben Gamble & Baz (with the Reserves) & long term sick note Lee. So the bare bones turn up and we line up as follows Lardy in the sticks, Neil, Adam, Shambles, Nice Guy Ian with Scott sitting in front and a midfield of Robbo, Rod, Gaz & Kris with Brylks up top. The bench is big on year’s low on talent as player manager for the day Chee and appearing for one night only retiree John Knowles our only option.
The game is played in the same spirit as the recent fixture at our place – Grumpy and Rod & Scott earn a booking a piece and to our credit we score all 5 goals with Lardy managing to somehow make a pigs ear out of a save that Fletch would’ve made look run of the mill by pushing the ball off the post and into his own net this you would’ve thought would’ve been enough to earn him chump of the day but this honour is bestowed on the ever grumpy Kris Francis a mantle he has taken up since Grumpy Wainwrights retirement and made his own this week the argument centered around Brylks choosing to shoot instead of passing, yes I know why would you come on we’ve all seen Kris’s talent and Brylks would’ve been accused of jug avoidance if he had chosen the path that Kris so desperately wanted to go down and talking of bad misses Rod failed to ruin both his schoolboy looks and hit the target with a point blank header. The goals did come though from a penalty from Robbo taking over the responsibility and showing the previous incumbent how it’s done after Kris was upended to avoid him embarrassing himself with a standard woeful finish. One can only assume his 1st touch took the ball away from not only himself but the on rushing defender. The said previous incumbent Mr Hollywood did score from open play and to move surely into top goalscorer territory Brylks notches 2.
This report may be amended as more facts become available but just remember as the Stereophonics sang “half of the lies you tell ain't true”
