Harborough Town FC Under 8s
U8s Review of the Season
| 9th April 2008 - Latest News | This has been a year of consolidation for the U8s Risers, the scoreboard reading thus: P14 W6 D3 L5 For 35 Against 27 A resume of the season contains the following highlights: (a) As this was a year of consolidation the team’s expectations were tempered and we hoped for a mid table 24 point finish. By the end of the season we had achieved our goal, although we were ultimately 3 points shy of our pre-season target.
(b) We started the year with 10 players and finished the year with 9, with the two new players combining well with last season’s squad. The team has developed well throughout the year and played with improved performance and confidence.
(c) The season saw a stronger fixture list with new opponents such as Ibstock Lions and Hinckley Swallows as well as some regular opposition. Highlights included draws against the league leaders Ibstock Lions (unbeaten all season) and Hinckley Swallows who finished runners-up.
(d) We have continued to play our brand of open, expansive; running football and our goals conceded (with the exception of one game) bears witness to one of the best defences around: one that leaks few goals. Also our midfield developed into a more steely and aggressive group of players as the season progressed.
(e) Two notable away performances this year were against Stoke Golding and Epworth Forest whom we beat comfortably 7-0 and 5-0 respectively. Here there was no complacency on the part of the Risers team but a determination to succeed and the boys emerged deserved winners.
(f) A big thanks to all the boys who helped raise in excessive of £ 1,000 towards the development of a community-wide facility at Northampton Road, through a 12-mile sponsored bike ride on the 16th March 2008.
(g) Awards winners this year are:
• Parents Player of the Year: ? • Golden-boots: ? • Coaches Most Improved Player of the Year: ?
(g) Finally a big, big thank you: • to all the boys for their commitment and cheerful enthusiasm throughout the season, • to my fellow coach for his time, energy and wholehearted commitment to the boys' development as football players, • to our great group of parents: vocal in their support of the teams from the touchline, supportive of their sons and undaunted by the journeys to clubs as far afield as Epworth, Ibstock, and Hinckley etc.
The boys and coaches are taking a well-earned break before returning as under 9s when we look forward to another successful season. |
